Molossia: The smallest republic in the world, or, fantasy?

The Republic of Molossia is a micronation founded by Kevin Baugh and headquartered near Dayton, Nevada, U.S.A.

It consists of Baugh's house (known as Government House), backyard and front garden, as well as two other properties in Southern California and Pennsylvania. According to author John Ryan, Molossia is "a hobby... that has been pushed... to the nth degree."^[1] Originally established as a childhood project in 1977, Molossia subsequently evolved into a territorial entity in the late 1990s.

Micronations generally have a number of common features:

1. They often assert that they wish to be widely recognized as sovereign states, but are not so recognized.
2. They are small; those that claim to control physical territories are mostly of very limited extent. While several micronations claim hundreds or even thousands of members, the vast majority have no more than one or two active participants.
3. Some issue government instruments such as passports, stamps, and currency, and confer titles and awards; these are rarely recognized outside of their own communities of interest.

The Republic of Molossia claims to be a sovereign, independent nation-state, located in and completely surrounded by the United States, making it an enclave nation. As a result, it has adopted a system of government recognizably similar in structure to that of a sovereign state.

Some comments that I have read on student blogs are quite rude, and that is NOT called for.
